You can go into any grocery store now and get special ingredients and meals that are made for those with diabetes. No matter which type of diabetes you have it does not have to mean you will not be able to enjoy food or life. On the contrary, there is no reason to not eat great and get plenty of exercise. The more fit you are the more likely you are to stay healthy and not have many of the common issues many diabetics can have.
Controlling Blood Sugar With Your Diet
There are several ways you can control your diabetes using diet. This will depend on which type of diabetes you have and what you are willing to do to make it work. The key is to eat enough carbs to give you the sugar you must have without throwing your blood sugars too high. To live healthy you must eat a well-balanced diabetic diet and eat at the right times per day. If you eat smaller meals more often you supply your body with the right amount of carbs without over doing it. It is always important to check your blood sugars regularly to be sure you are in the right range. Once you know what you can eat and when you will be on the road to enjoying food.
Still Needing Insulin
If you still need insulin no matter what you eat, do not assume you can just eat what you want. To live healthy you must eat low sugar as well. What many diabetics do not understand is you can measure the right amount of insulin to counter act the sugar you eat, but this can still have negative effects. Allowing more sugar to enter cells just allows your body to store it as fat. This can lead to becoming over weight. Not enough sugar for cells to use can make you underweight. You need to be sure to find a healthy balance in what you eat and the amount of insulin you take.
Losing Weight Can Help
Losing weight can be extremely important when you want to live healthy as a diabetic. It can be hard to lose pounds when you are on medications that cause weight gain or cannot exercise do to other health issues. Remember that a little goes a long way. Even just light exercise such as walking can make a huge difference. It is very important for diabetics to make sure they are fit. Blood needs to be pumped to all the extremities to avoid losing circulation or sensation that can lead to other health concerns. If you are in the proper weight range you may be able to avoid some of these issues all together. Just because you have diabetes does not mean you will automatically become ill later. Many people live healthy productive lives with diabetes every day.
